MAST is a one dimensional code that applies the multi-field approach combined with a high spatial resolution to simulate gas-liquid-liquid flow and flow pattern transitions in hydrocarbon transportation lines.
A set of complex experiments carried out at TEA laboratory is used to develop the closure equations required for the description of stratified dispersed flow
(
SESAME project) and heavy oil flow (
HOP project).
MAST is able to describe the main flow patterns and the transitions among them as fully dynamic processes, without applying empirical equations or transition rules.
The dynamic description of slug flow allows the code to compute slug length distribution and frequency at any position along a pipeline, with no closure equations required for the slug bubble velocity and the slug void fraction.

MAST has been written in C++ and the algorithm has been conceived for parallel computation
Current speed up factor is up to 12 obtained in a 16 processor PC;
A speed up factor of more than 300 has been obtained using the GPU approach
